Zalonis (So Cal) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful So after trying out 3 other similar products ranging in price from 88-179 dollars, I decided to spend a bit more and got what I was looking for. I had been sleeping on an expensive $300+ memory foam mattress topper that was about 5 years old and it was pretty close to perfect still. Recently a family member who has severe back trouble had recently called and complained to me about her mattress hurting her back. So I decided to give her the foam I was using and go out and buy myself a discount topper(big mistake). The first one I tried was 2.5lb foam made in the USA and set me back 99 bucks, I only used it for 2 nights and found it to be so soft that once I sunk into it, my mattress actually seemed worse than with no pad. The second was 88 dollars and was made in China out of 3lb foam and was slightly more supportive, however it smelled like a toxic waste dump with a very burnt plastic aroma so it went back as well. Third was a $179 shredded memory foam topper that felt alright in the store sample, but when I got it home had many hard rock-like chunks of "foam" suffused with softer chunks of shredded foam so it was worthless too, imagine a mattress pad thats 3/4 feathers and 1/4 gravel. I just want to know, how someone came up with the idea to sell foam "waste" product for $179 and not bother to take out the hard chunks of unformed foam in the mix. Finally a topper that is supportive, soft enough and doesn't smell like something that I feel an instinctual need to escape from. I guess when it comes to memory foam like many other things the old adage "you get what you pay for" is generally true.
